Fotbal Club Progresul Bucureşti (previously named Fotbal Club Național Bucureşti) is a Romanian football club from Bucharest, founded in 1944. The team spent the majority of its history in the top-flight, but in 2009 experienced great financial problems, and was demoted to the fourth-tier league, Liga IV.

History

The team won the Romanian Cup in 1960 and played another 4 finals in 1958, 1997, 2003 and 2006.

One of the club's biggest successes was the elimination of Serbian side Partizan Belgrade in the UEFA Cup competition in the late 1990s.

Surprisingly, the club was relegated to the Liga II at the end of the 2006-07 season, finishing 16th out of 18 teams.

In April 2009 the club was kicked out of the championship because of financial reasons and will start the 2009-10 season in the Liga IV. Prior to this, only a few days before, they were kicked out from the Cotroceni Stadium by BNR, because of debts.

The club started the 2009-10 season in the Liga IV, using players from the `91 and `92 youth squads.
